This project focuses on the development of essential methodic and technological groundwork to capture high-definition, highly dynamic 3D images in order to design specific sensors in areas such as: Quality Control, Security/Identification and Non-Invasive Medical Diagnostic.

Technical Targets:
•High resolution: in the micrometer range
•Speed: >100 3D image/s with > VGA resolution, i.e. > 30 million 3D dots/s
•Continuous measurement with sensors and/or measured object in motion.

New solutions need to be developed to face challenges such as: speed, high resolution, low-latency and insensitivity to environment. These solutions not only include hardware development, but also require robust 3D Data Processing.

HOLOEYE tasks in the project

HOLOEYE develops a new industrial solution based on existing LCOS technology. This includes the development of a fast and efficient (720 Hz refresh rate) high-resolution (1920×1080 pixels) microdisplay for the near infrared (approx. 700-1100 nm) or VIS range (400-700 nm), as well as the development of corresponding compact control electronics with new functionalities (FPGA-based) and the development and implementation of interfaces for further integration into the sensor systems.

One main goal is the development and implementation of the built-in (FPGA-based) pattern generator. The relative simplicity of the patterns required for the application (lines) compared with a typical video signal allowed for a more efficient implementation.
