The LETO phase modulator is based on a reflective LCOS microdisplay with full HD (1920 x 1080 pixel ) resolution. With a pixel pitch of 6.4 µm and a small interpixel gap of 0.2 µm the LETO SLM provides a high fill factor of 93% and thereby a high light efficiency.
HOLOEYE offers three different LETO LCOS Spatial Light Modulator versions which are optimized for the use at different wavelength ranges / for different applications. One SLM version is optimized for the visible range, one version for the near IR range up to 1100 nm and a third version is optimized for fast response (180 Hz) and use for color-field-sequential (CFS) operation in the visible range with color-switchable RGB Laser (different pulse-code programming / calibration is necessary).
The adaptation of the device settings for different operating wavelengths to a linear 2 π phase response can be done by straight forward gamma correction using the supplied Configuration Manager software.
The LETO Spatial Light Modulator offers a reflectivity between 62% up to 75% (dependent on wavelength and version). Due to the optimized design of the LCOS microdisplay the LETO SLM shows low cross talk between the pixels resulting in high effective spatial resolution. The device offers diffraction efficiencies of more than 80% (16 level blazed grating) which leads to a total light efficiency of ~ 60%.
The LETO phase only spatial light modulator devices can simply be addressed like an external monitor using the standard HDMI interface of the graphics card. No additional software or special hardware is needed to operate the SLM.
LETO Phase Only Spatial Light Modulator Versions:
The LETO-VIS-009 SLM version can essentially be used between 420nm and 1064nm. The display has an AR coating that gives a front reflection less than 0.5% in this range. However, the phase shift above 800 nm will be limited (below 2 Pi). The LETO-NIR-081 version is equipped with an AR coating for the range of 650 nm to 1100nm and provides 2 Pi phase shift up to 1100 nm.
The LETO-VIS-017 SLM version is optimized for fast response times for the use at color field sequential operation in the visible range. The LETO Spatial Light Modulator driver is prepared to work in color-field-sequential (CFS) mode e.g. with color-switchable LASER or LED lighting and the device features an LED-connector which can be used to synchronize the light source with the device.
|Version||Wavelength Range||Reflectivity||Max. Phase Shift||Recommendation|
|LETO-VIS-009||420 – 800 nm||~75 %||3.7 Pi @ 530 nm
2.2 Pi @ 800 nm
|LETO-VIS-017||420 – 650 nm||~75 %||min 2 Pi @ visible range||Fast Response Time for CFS operation|
|LETO-NIR-081||650 – 1100 nm||62-70%||4.4 Pi @ 650 nm
2.4 Pi @ 1064 nm

LETO LCOS Phase Modulator – Software Features:
The LETO phase only modulator devices can simply be addressed like an external monitor using the standard HDMI interface of the graphics card. No additional software or dedicated hardware is needed to operate the SLM.
The LCOS SLM device is delivered with a GUI (Graphical User Interface) based Configuration Manger software. The Configuration Manager can be used to change geometrical settings, brightness, contrast and the electrooptical response by applying a new gamma curve or another digital drive scheme. An USB interface is used for these advanced callibrations.
In addition a HOLOEYE SLM Pattern Generator software is provided with the SLM:
- Computation of computer generated holograms (CGH) from user defined images
- generation of SLM signals representing basic optical functions such as lenses, gratings, axicon and vortex functions
- superposition of CGH’s with basic optical functions to combine functionalities
Besides that a special SLM Slidwshow Player Software comes with the device. Also an SLM Display SDK is avaialbe for download which provides APIs (Application Programming Interface) for different programming languages to show images and data/ phase arrays directly on a HOLOEYE Spatial Light Modulator:
- National Instruments LabVIEW™ 8.6 and later
- MathWorks MATLAB® R2009b and later
- Octave 4.x
- Python™ 2.7 and 3.x
