INTENSE

INTENSE

The INTENSE project addresses the need for the development of intelligent lighting management systems that combine high functionality with optimized energy efficiency. The aim of the project is the development and large-volume production of individual optical components based on SLM-supported interference lithography (IL) and various molding techniques.

Two types of components are addressed: on the one hand, plastic diffusers for LEDs, which enable intelligent light distribution, and on the other hand, cost-effective infrared sensors that adapt the lighting to the current situation in the room.

According to the Photonics industry report, this combination of intelligent light guidance and lighting control enables energy savings of 30% compared to conventional solutions.

HOLOEYE tasks in the project

The main task of HOLOEYE as part of the INTENSE project was the development and implementation of an ultra-high-resolution spatial light modulator (LCOS, SLM) for two wavelength ranges: the blue/ultraviolet spectral range (350nm-405nm) and the green spectral range (488nm-520nm).

These two new SLMs are characterized by a high reflectivity, a high diffraction efficiency and a high Laser Induced Damage Threshold. This was achieved by the use of highly stable Liquid Crystal (LC) materials, an effective thermal management of the microdisplay, and the development of highly reflective Dielectric Mirror Coatings for the CMOS backplane.

Both SLM types were qualified by the project partners for their Interference Lithography application.
