A non-canonical optical vortex (OV) has a non-uniform phase gradient, and its phase is not a linear function of the azimuthal angle. To the best of our knowledge, non-canonical OVs with different shapes have not been reported to date. Herein, we propose a non-canonical elliptical perfect OV (EPOV) with a non-uniform phase distribution. We report that the global topological charge of non-canonical EPOVs remains an integer, while the local equivalent topological charge of each independent sector can be either an integer or a fractional value. The non-canonical EPOV with a continuous phase exhibits a stable optical field intensity. EPOVs with multiple singularities are obtained by superimposing canonical OVs with a topological charge of zero, where the number of singularities is equal to the number of phase jumps, to finally afford the non-canonical EPOV array. Experiments are performed to verify the accuracy of the theoretical model. The findings of this study can have potential applications in the fields of optical tweezers, particle manipulation, etc.
