Generating 3D holograms with correct occlusion relationships is one of the most challenging research topics in the field of holography. We propose what we believe to be a novel layer-based hologram synthesis method for multi-depth 3D holograms. The proposed method slices the scene into parallel layers based on depth information and then propagates the complex amplitude of every slice layer by layer after supplementing edge amplitude and smoothly filling phase information. It effectively reconstructs clear 3D scenes with accurate occlusion, reducing edge artifacts between layers. The resulting holograms feature a clear front-to-back relationship, sharper focal plane edges, and a closer resemblance to the real scene.
