We present and experimentally validate an analytical equivalence between the intensities produced by free-space propagation and a single-lens processor (SLP) within the framework of diffraction theory. Accordingly, we propose a method for reconstructing Fresnel holograms with adjustable magnification using an SLP. Therequired parameters for optimal operation are derived, facilitating both numerical and experimental implementations. This method was applied to reconstruct simulated and experimental holograms of 2D and 3D objects, achieving controlled magnification. Furthermore, the proposed equivalence was used to demonstrate adjustable magnification in an experimental holographic projection setup based on phase-only computer-generated holograms.
